Do you want to recycle your egg carton and want to try to make something crafty? We have a cute solution (Or a nice idea if you just want to be crafty today). We are going to make some easy DIY egg carton roses. These roses are cute as a decoration or as an addition to a wrapped present.
This is a project that you can do in 30-60 minutes, depending on how many roses you make. It is also a very cheap project, since you only need 2 things.
- Egg carton
- Glue gun (+ glue)
The first step is to split the top part of the egg carton form the bottom part. You can just carefully rip these apart. After ripping these, you want to rip off 2 “egg” parts if the rim is high on all sides, or 3 “egg” parts if the rim is lower on some places as it is with my egg carton. Be careful, so you will have as much of the rim as possible to work with.
The second step is to trim the edges, so they are more or less the same shape and size. Also try to make four peddels by ripping the sides into four peddles. Look at my picture below to see what I mean with trimming. I just rip of the sharp edges and make sure they are roughly the same length. The don’t need to be perfect! Roses aren’t perfect either.
After trimming the first layer/cup, repeat the trimming for the other (two) cups.
Now you have all three (or two) cups trimmed it is time to glue the first two parts together. Try out which cup fits the bottom the best and which cup is the best on top. Then get your glue gun and glue the underside of the second cup. (This is the cup that will be in the middle)
After glueing the first two cups, make sure to pinch the cups together for a short period until the glue is dry.
Repeat the process with glueing the last cup on top and pinching these together. Now you have the base of your rose. It is time to make the last step.
Rip a small strip of the egg carton, just like in the picture below. This one will have the width of around 1,5-2 centimeter or 0,5 – 0,7 inch.
Roll this strip up tightly and then let it loosen up a little on you hand, just as in the pictures below.
Step 8 and the final step
Now you have to get the glue gun again and glue a cross on the “ugliest” side of this roll-up. I’m talking about the upside or bottom side. I don’t have a picture of this, because it is essential that you then glue this part fast in de middle of your rose so it can dry properly. Now you have your rose. You can also choose to paint your roses in any colour you want. I recommend using acrylic paint.
Please let us know if you try this out yourself. We would love to hear from you or see the pictures.
